Washington State L&I Maintenance Mechanic 1, Facilities & Warehouse in Tumwater, Washington
We are seeking to fill two positions within our Facility Management program:
Labor and Industries is a diverse state agency dedicated to preventing workplace injuries and assisting Washington's 2.7 million workers recover and return to work when injuries do occur. We serve our customers in 20 offices throughout Washington and have approximately 2,900 skilled and dedicated employees. The Facility Management program provides thoughtful support and as a Maintenance Mechanic 1,you have the opportunity to contribute directly to the quality of service provided by the Department of Labor & Industries by creating a safe and ergonomically correct work space to internal customers.
Maintenance Mechanic 1 – Facilities Management Section (Headquarters Tumwater)
You'll join a team of eight providing facility planning services to the entire agency and limited facilities maintenance support to Olympia area offices. The objective of this job is to provide complete work space modification support and provide backup support for the Warehouse Operations team. This opportunity will expose you to working with a variety of different office panel and furniture systems, reading blueprints, CAD drawings and interpret detailed instructions to accomplish office reconfigurations. Additionally, you will work in coordination with the agency's facilities planners, facilities coordinators, ergonomics aides, Information Technology, Telecommunications and contracted electricians to resolve any barriers in completion of adjustments.
Maintenance Mechanic 1 – Warehouse Operations Section (Tumwater)
In this non-permanent, six (6) month opportunity you'll join a team of six workers in the Warehouse Operations Section of the Department of Labor and Industries. The Warehouse Operations Section provides supplies and facilities maintenance support to L&I; Headquarters in Tumwater and 20 field offices statewide. The section maintains an inventory of about 1,000 lines of office supplies, forms, publications and posters.
The Warehouse Operations Section is comprised of two workgroups: Warehouse Support and Field Support. You'll become a member of the Field Support group and provide backup support to the Warehouse Support group by filling in during absences at various warehouse positions as needed. The work you'll do will directly contribute to the quality of services provided by the agency.
Please note the Warehouse position will require the future incumbent to travel 36 days during their 6 month appointment with 14 of those days being overnight stays.
Who should apply
Individuals with the ability to read and interpret AutoCAD system furniture drawings, and possess two (2) years' experience performing general mechanical maintenance, two (2) years' experience assembling and adjusting modular furniture, and one (1) year experience performing inventory control, stock keeping, receiving, or shipping.
What we're looking for:
- Applicants with strong written and oral communication skills and abilities. You will be required to be a very effective communicator, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks such as moving office furniture, and lifting and moving boxes that weigh up to 60 pounds.
- Experience assembling and adjusting Steelcase and Haworth modular office furniture.
- Skilled using hand and power tools.
- Experience operating a 3,500 pound capacity forklift and a 3,500 pound capacity electric pallet jack.
- Understanding and applying building and fire codes including compliance with the American with Disabilities Act is desired.
- Experience safely operating trucks with gross vehicle weights (GVW) of 25,500 or less.
Must have a valid driver's license and pass a driver's records check.
