Established in 1949 by the Washington State Legislature, the Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) is responsible for administering and enforcing the Washington Law Against Discrimination - Chapter 49.60 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW). Our mission is to eliminate and prevent discrimination in Washington State through the fair application of the law, efficient use of resources, and establishment of productive partnerships in the community.

Duties

The Customer Service Specialist 2 provides customer service support to clients, visitors and WSHRC investigative staff. This person will answer phones, greet visitors, assist with problem resolution for agency customers, and will provide information regarding options, rights, regulations, and available services.

In this position you will:

  • Answer calls and greet walk in customers, providing information about the general jurisdictional criteria for filing a complaint and providing referrals to the appropriate agency for non-jurisdictional issues.
  • Set up case files, prepare cases for closures, create documents and forms using various programs, type correspondence, and provide technical proofreading and editing;
  • Enter complaint information into a database.
  • Handle matters involving confidentiality in a professional manner;
  • Assist civil rights staff with preparation of outreach materials;
  • Provide status of open cases to Complainants, Respondents, and interested parties.

Qualifications

Required:

  • An Associate's degree AND two years of experience providing assistance to customers regarding inquiries, complaints or problems. OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or equivalent; OR
  • At least four experience providing assistance to customers regarding inquiries, complaints or problems.

Desired:

  • Spoken and written proficiency in Spanish.
